Introduction to The Month’s MVP: Vol.1

It’s a new year and a fresh new start for many of you and we just so happen to be in the first month of the year. So why not open the year with a bang with a new segment that celebrates and highlights a selected player and instead of calling them a “Player of the Month”, here at The Baseline we’re calling them “THE MONTH’S MVP“.

And this month’s MVP is the very much talented, versatile and future NBA MVP, Anthony Davis.

But before we highlight him as THE MONTH’S MVP, it’s only right to be formally introduced to the man who is one of the frontiers for changing the big man’s game and why he is recognized as the future of the game of basketball.

Alright on to the MVP, Anthony Marshon Davis Jr was born on the 11th of March 1993 in the city of Chicago. Yes, Chicago is the birthplace of many of the NBA’s bright stars such as AD himself, Derrick Rose and Jabari Parker but anyway…Davis started playing basketball in high school and he wasn’t the big guy we see him today. Fun fact, AD started as a guard who could according to many of his teammates shoot threes from the corner. Much like plenty basketball players, AD had hit his growth spurt which elevated his height to 1.83 metres to 1.93 metres. Today, Anthony Davis stands at a height of 2.03 metres…that’s quite the growth spurt.

In his college career, AD played for the University of Kentucky and had made an immense impact on the college basketball league as he was already predicted to be a first round draft pick in the NBA Draft and win individuals awards that would highlight as the great player that he was (and still is). Many praised AD’s style of play as he seen as the shot blocker and the forward who can play pretty much like a guard SHOULD. At the end of his college career, he helped Kentucky to win their eighth NCAA championship.

In the summer (SA winter season) of 2012, Anthony Davis was selected as the first overall pick in the NBA Draft by the New Orleans Hornets (today, New Orleans Pelicans) and has been the team since. That same summer, AD had the opportunity to play with NBA’s finest such as LeBron James, Kevin Durant and Kobe Bryant in the USA Olympic Basketball team in the London Olympics and would go on to win the prestigious gold medal. At the end of his rookie season he was selected in the NBA All-Rookie First Team but he finished second in the Rookie of the Year awards just behind Damian Lillard.

In his next season Anthony Davis was already named an All Star and he truly deserved it. Since then he went on to be a four time All Star and was a starter in last year’s All Star Game in front of his New Orleans faithful. Chances are he might be a starter in this year’s All Star game but one thing for sure is that he will be a five time All Star.

Today he plays alongside DeMarcus Cousins and Rajon Rondo and so far this season he’s performing like the true All Star that he is and he’s still yet to turn 25 which means he will reach his prime pretty soon. By the time he’s 30 years old AD will surely be a NBA MVP and quite possibly an NBA Champion…hopefully.
