It’s official. Russell Westbrook has averaged a triple-double for the third straight season making him the first player in the whole of NBA history to do so. He achieved this on the night of the 5th April as he recorded a match score of 19 points 15 assists and 8 rebounds against the Detroit Pistons which lead them to the victory.

What Westbrook has achieved is groundbreaking. And to think no other player in the history of the NBA has done what Westbrook just achieved. Sure there were Oscar Robinson and Wilt Chamberlain but averaging a triple-double three times in a row was never something that was possibly thought of back then. In today’s game where statistics are just as important as securing a place in the Playoffs, it’s no surprise that Russell Westbrook would be capable of averaging a triple-double. Not once, not twice but definitely three times. Who’s to say he can’t do it again next season?
You should understand why this is an amazing feat. If Westbrook was a Small Forward or a Power Forward we wouldn’t find the space to be amazed but for him to be a Point Guard who stands at a height of 6 ft 3 in/191 m yet has the abilities of a Forward and dominates as if he’s an all rounder but is still a primary Point Guard is all just baffling. One could say this solidifies and proves that Westbrook is indeed the most athletically talented Point Guard in the NBA today. Perhaps even in history.

Although he’s not in the run for the Most Valuable Player award this season, we should still recognise Westbrook’s MVP Calibre and we should definitely put him in the Top 10 of Greatest Point Guards of All Time. Fact is, Westbrook is definitely heading to the Hall Of Fame. And like I said earlier, who’s to say he won’t average another triple-double next season and if he does then expect another joyful praise from me.
Congratulations Brodie!
