NBA PLAYOFFS 2019: Story So Far

Unless you’re living under a rock, you should know that the NBA Playoffs are here and it may be the first round but we’ve received nothing but heat from all the participanting teams. This is what Playoff basketball is, entertaining and competitive basketball that we so love and enjoy to watch. So let’s check out what’s going on so far in the NBA Playoffs.

Brawl of the Pitbulls

The series between the Portland Trailblazers and the Oklahoma City Thunder was promised to deliver pure fire and so far we’ve been getting lava explosions as both teams are truly fighting bone and mail to secure a place to the second round of the Playoffs and who better to look at to deliver a fiery series between these teams than Damian Lillard and Russell Westbrook. Prior to the game, Damian compared himself and his point guard opponent to a pair of pitbulls due to their aggressive and competitive ways of wanting to win. And that’s exactly what we’ve gotten from these two, an epic brawl between pitbulls stopping at nothing to get the wins. So far the Trailblazers are leading the series 2-1 and this is one series that could see a potential Game 6 or even a Game 7. But one thing I can can guarantee you is that this is the series to watch.

KD vs Pat: A series of mind games

The Warriors-Clippers series is another classic as both teams have history of battling each other in the Playoffs where we saw the best of Stephen Curry and Chris Paul. But now it’s a battle between Kevin Durant and Patrick Beverly. And I’m not talking about a scoring battle, I’m talking about a battle of mind games consistent of trash talk, intimidation and technical fouls dished out by the referees of course. Game 1 saw both players ejected for their behaviours towards each other to which KD responded was just fun banter between the two. Game 2 when the Warriors blew a whole 31 point lead, Pat stated that he’s doing his job by guarding Kevin Durant with everything he’s got in his arsenal. And now the Warriors are leading 2-1 and it’s only fair to say the Warriors have woken up from that disastrous Game 2 but don’t count the Clippers out just yet. They may be outgunned by the superior talents of Golden State but they surely have more heart than the reigning champions. This is an interesting series.

“Can the real Boston Celtics please stand up?”

The Celtics are bullying their first round opponents Indiana Pacers to a point where a sweep is looming over the series. The Celtics are leading their series 3-0 which hasn’t surprised many due to the absence of Victor Oladipo (Pacers). But seeing the performances of the Celtics has lead to many of us questioning if this is Thee Boston Celtics that we’ve been expecting prior to the 2018-19 Regular season. Kyrie Irving is dazzling with him scoring comfortably and playing as team player rather than putting the weight of his team on his shoulders, Gordon Hayward is beginning to look like his past Utah Jazz self and the youngsters of Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown are picking off where they left in last year’s Playoffs. This is a dangerous looking Celtics team that may pose a threat to the Milwaukee Bucks, Toronto Raptors and Philadelphia 76ers. And if the Celtics do achieve a sweep in this series…it may be time to start waking up to smell the coffee that the Boston Celtics are brewing.

The Freak Is Finding Ground

Giannis Antetokounmpo is an MVP frontrunner this year (FINALLY) and he should definitely not be counted out for the award. The only thing that was worrying was if he would build on the same momentum he’s built all regular season long in the Playoffs especially against a rowdy team of the Detroit Pistons. And from where I’m sitting, he’s looking more than comfortable playing in the big lights at the big stage. So far, the Pistons aren’t looking good against Giannis as they look vulnerable without All Star Blake Griffin and looking helpless against the powerhouse being Giannis. Not to mention the whole Bucks team are bullying the Pistons team with monstrous dunks and blocks set up by the Greek Freak himself. It stands 2-0 so far to the Milwaukee Bucks and from the looks of things it may be a sweep.

And there you have it, a quick breakdown of what’s happening in this year’s first round of the NBA Playoffs. First round games still commence for the next week and we should seated and tuned to everything transpiring in the explosive NBA Playoffs.

NBA Playoffs 2019: PREVIEW

The NBA regular season is done and dusted and we’re now in the post penultimate stage of the NBA season; The Postseason, where the NBA Championship is up for grabs and a chance for stars to grasp immortality in their legacies. It’s only right we take a look at a few things to look forward to in this year’s Postseason but before we get ahead ourselves let’s being with a preview of the NBA Playoffs 2019.

LeBron-Less Playoffs

For the first time in a decade, we’ll be witnessing a Playoffs without the mega superstar that is LeBron James and to be honest, it’s still pretty hard to digest that considering that we’ve seen him dominate the Eastern Playoffs all decade long. With his switch to the West, it made things more challenging and harder for him to reach the Playoffs due to the high competition in the West. But this also gives a new hope in the East that we’ll be getting a new wave of competition in the Eastern Conference Playoffs. So don’t expect LeBron to just make a sudden appearance not unless he’s a spectator in the arena but otherwise the next time we’ll be seeing LeBron James will be next season.

A Rumble In The East

With LeBron James out of the window, the vacant spot for King Of The East has caused some teams to suddenly evolve such as the Milwaukee Bucks who finished the season as the first seeded team followed by the Toronto Raptors and Philadelphia 76ers. Although we were all expecting the Boston Celtics to immediately snatch the crown of the Eastern Conference, you can see that these evolved teams have made it harder for them to even try to snatch the crown. Although the Bucks aren’t officially the Kings Of The East as they still have to win the Eastern Conference Finals, the crown for the East is really anybody’s game. For all we know, the Brooklyn Nets could win the Eastern Conference!

The Warriors’ Defense

The Golden State Warriors are complete now, with DeMarcus Cousin fully recovered, Kevin Durant and Klay Thompson fully locked in, Draymond Green ready to bully players and Stephen Curry having full 20/20 vision on the court. However, critics have been quite critical of the Warriors stating that they’re not the same dominating team they once were. But that doesn’t really taint the Warriors because they’re still in the chase for a third consecutive title and a fourth championship in the last five years. But the Warriors will have to fend off the likes of Houston Rockets, Oklahoma City Thunder and the unexpected Denver Nuggets of which all these teams have improved drastically. Sure the Rockets finished the season two places lower than they did last season but they’re just as lethal as they were last year. So it’s no secret that the Warriors are in for a heck of Playoffs run and don’t expect them to sweep roll their way to The Finals just as they did last season and the season before that. The Western Conference Playoffs will surely be a Wild Wild West.

The MVPs Will State Their Case

The MVPs frontrunners James Harden and Giannis Antetokounmpo have been phenomenal all regular season long and we don’t expect them to slow down come Playoffs time as this will be there final opportunity to prove why one of them deserve to go home with the prestigious individual award. We cannot say either players have an easy case because they’re guaranteed to meet up with teams stacked with a lot of defense and firepower to distract them from attempting to pull MVP numbers. But one thing we should expect is to see both Giannis and Harden playing in a much more superior level than they’ve played during the regular season.

And there you have it, the NBA Playoffs is here and we will be clued to our phones and highlights of these teams battling their way to the allusive NBA Finals to grasp at opportunity at immortality and supremacy in the league. This year’s Playoffs are guaranteed to surely entertain us.

A Battle For The Seeds

The NBA regular season is coming to an end. It’s been a long joyful season to watch as we’ve witnessed massive moments and one of the moments was the tidal shift in the Eastern Conference. Remember, LeBron James inches ruled over the East for almost a decade and ever since his change of scenery the Eastern Conference has come to light. Never mind the dominance between the Bucks and the Raptors but there have been a sudden rise of promise in certain teams.

Mind you, the Western Conference is already settled (as expected) and there’s no reason to look into that conference when we all know the two teams that could meet up on the doorstep of The Finals; Golden State Warriors & Houston Rockets. Yet in the Eastern Conference it’s really anybody’s game. Speaking of which let me remind you of what’s going down in the East.

The first five seed spots are already occupied leaving the sixth, seventh and eighth spots still up for grabs. Sure these teams won’t get any home court advantage but a spot in the Playoffs is better than ending the NBA season early. The three remaining spots are contested between a whopping four teams! Which means one of them will unfortunately have to begin an early offseason; Detroit Pistons, Brooklyn Nets, Orlando Magic & Miami Heat.

These teams have been doing extraordinarily superb this season and they’ve made their case as to why they deserve a spot in the Playoffs and if life was really a wonderful joy, we’d be seeing all four of these teams make a statement in the Playoffs. Yet here we are, on the edge of our seats wondering who will possibly end their season early?

If bets had to be made, I’d say it’s safe to place your bets on the Pistons and the Nets because theses are teams with players that have amazingly improved and stepped into an elite level they were supposed to be in in their respective Los Angeles days. Blake Griffin and D’Angelo Russell. Both of these players made it to the All Star Game and have changed and made new barriers in their respective teams and we’re looking forward to see the potential the players will bring when the stakes are high.

This leaves the Orlando Magic and Miami Heat competing for the allusive eighth spot. Sure the Pistons and Nets haven’t officially clinched their Playoffs spots but let’s be real here, those two teams are making it through which will leave the Florida teams to compete for the eighth and final spot.

The unfortunate thing about the Magic-Heat race, is that we’ll be saying goodbye to teams that were a joy to watch all season long. In Orlando’s case, this is a young team that have made history for achieving 10 straight home games and this hasn’t been done in a decade! Not to mention the awesomeness of Nikola Vucevic who has been playing at an absolute elite level that had him being called up for the All Star Game. In Miami’s case, it’s Dwyane Wade we’re talking about! The man is on the verge of retiring! And what’s a better way than ending your career IN THE PLAYOFFS!? Potentially The Finals.

Point is, I want to see all these teams make their way to the Playoffs but unfortunately only three can make it. And I’m willing to bet that

Detroit Piston, Brooklyn Nets and….Orlando Magic are making it to the Playoffs. Unfortunately I don’t see the Heat making it…but I’m leaving room to be wrong…for Dwyane Wade.
